Dr. William E. Mathews, M.D.
Dr. Mathews received his Bachelor of Science degree from Ball State
University in Muncie, Indiana and his Doctor of Medicine degree from
the University of California Irvine, College of Medicine. He was
Chief Resident in neurosurgery at the Los Angeles County General
Hospital in Los Angeles, California. Following his residency, he
served as the Commanding Officer of the 933rd Neurosurgical
Detachment, U.S. Army in The Republic of Vietnam.
Dr. Mathews numerous accolades include
the Lifetime Achievement Award presented at the joint meeting of the
International College of Surgeons and the American Academy of
Neurological and Orthopedic Surgeons. He has served as President of
the American Academy of Neurological and Orthopedic Surgeons and
currently serves as the Chairman of the American Board of Spinal
Surgery. He is also Chairman of the Continuing Medical Education
Committee of the Academy and sits on the editorial board for the
Journal of Neurological and Orthopedic Medicine and Surgery.
As an Associate Clinical
Professor at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr.
Mathews gives classroom lectures and tutors medical students in the
operating room.
